At times, stains may appear on your carpets for no apparent reasons at
all, often after cleaning. These stains actually originate from long-forgotten
spills that have been hidden by the soil in the carpet. These are caused
by household chemicals like floor wax, detergents, cosmetics, deodorants
etc. One culprit that has suddenly come in limelight is benzoyl peroxide
in popular acne medicines which rubs off from hands and under ideal humidity
and temperature becomes glaringly obvious.
Another reason for the sudden appearance of latent stains can be the
wicking up to the surface of spills that have penetrated deep into the
carpet. Water soaking into the backing can cause chemical reaction with
dyes in the backing and these rise up to the surface through the pile
fabrics.
A professional cleaner should be consulted to correct these stains but,
be prepared, the damage to the carpet may be irreversible. To prevent
latent stains, IMMEDIATELY clean up all spills and remove all stains at
the earliest possible stage.
